Where’s My Tax Refund?

Posted by The Feds on November 11, 2008

The regular refund checks that were returned to the IRS average $988. These checks are resent as soon as taxpayers update their address.

Taxpayers can update their addresses with the “Where’s My Refund?” tool on the IRS Web site. It enables taxpayers to check the status of their refunds. A taxpayer must submit his or her social security number, filing status and amount of refund shown on their 2007 return. The tool will provide the status of their refund and in some cases provide instructions on how to resolve delivery problems.

Taxpayers checking on a refund over the phone will be given instructions on how to update their addresses. Taxpayers can access a telephone version of “Where’s My Refund?” by calling 1-800-829-1954.

Son and wife, both military, filed 2007 tax return Feb. 2008. IRS received it, but lost it. They had to refile in April 2008. IRS said they found half of original return and received refile. After many calls and many excuses by IRS, they finally received their refund ‘and’ stimulus checks December 2008. The IRS said among many things that they would have to reclassify my son’s status as he was on deployment (?) He was not deployed until March 2008 which had no effect on his 2007 return. Why is IRS not liable for late payment fee or at very least interest on son’s tax refund? Even after admitting they received first one and receiving second one in April, what right did they have to keep their refund 8 more months?

Last year 2007 and then again this year 2008, your department has let my wife file taxes claiming our son even though he has not stayed with her . I could not file rapid and have not herd anything about my tax’s in well over a month. Last year I did not get my taxes until the tenth month of the year. I would love to know something about my taxes. thankyou Amiri Barnum

My husband & I did amended tax returns for 2007 & 2008 in which we get a return for 2007 and our bill for 2008 was greatly reduced because our previous tax person did not properly do our taxes so we had to have them redone. We still have not seen our refend from 2007. This has been since April and we received a notice back in July that we will be receiving our refund but where is it? It is now September!

Got something to say?
